So blessed to be just an hour’s drive away from the beautiful Northumberland countryside. I took advantage of the long weekend to explore and walk along Hadrian’s wall, from Housesteads Roman Fort to Sycamore Gap. Then stayed over in a warm country cottage in Bardon Mill, where everything outside is pitch black at night and you can actually hear your thoughts, and where using your phone or watching TV seems to be out of place. Woke up the next day to the sounds of sheep and lamb grazing outside my window. Took a walk around Vindolanda Roman Fort, then a walk from Steel Rigg rudely cut short by mean cows (cows who were very wary of walkers as they had their young with them), lunch in Corbridge and then back to city and reality.
