Kitchen Diaries: Burger Day

Last night I dreamt I was at a friend’s burger place. Now I don’t know if that or the coincidental fact that it’s International Burger Day (we didn’t know there was such a thing; we just found out afterwards) somehow influenced our food choice for the day. What I do know is that I and Arnaud are always up for some kitchen time.

Here’s the improvised recipe we used for the burger:

Beef pattie:

500g ground beef
One onion, finely choped
2 cloves garlic, finely chopped
Salt
Pepper
Shiitake mushrooms, finely chopped (optional)

Mix all ingredients and form into patties. Makes around six medium size ones. Press the middle of the pattie to keep it from bulging in the middle. Grill in a hot pan for a few minutes on each side, depending on desired doneness.

Now just use pretty much whatever burger ingredients you like. For this burger we had gouda cheese and lettuce, plus a few condiments such as ketchup, mustard, and mayonnaise. A side of fries, which I jazzed up with some truffle oil, completed the meal.
